As we settle deep into the coldest part of winter, there’s nothing quite like wrapping your hands around a warm, spiced drink to keep cozy. If you’re exploring new ways to enjoy Dry January, but are missing your standard wintertime cocktails, our Hot Cannabuttered “Rum” offers a creative twist on the classic Hot Buttered Rum! Featuring a rich, aromatic batter infused with potent cannabutter, this indulgent mocktail is the perfect way to treat yourself while embracing a mindful start to the new year.

For the Buttered Batter:
Ingredients

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/4 cup cannabutter, softened

If you followed our recipe and used a strain around 20% CBD, this should be about 550mg of cannabinoids

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

1/4 tsp ground cloves
-
1/4 tsp ground ginger

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Pinch of salt
Directions for Batter

Mix the batter:
In a medium bowl, blend the unsalted butter and cannabutter until smooth. Add the brown sugar, powdered sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until fully combined. -
Store the batter:
Transfer the mixture to an airtight container and refrigerate. It will keep for up to 2 weeks. You can also freeze it for longer storage—simply scoop out portions as needed.
For the Mocktail:

1-2 tbsp batter

8 oz hot apple cider

Whipped cream (optional, for garnish)

Cinnamon stick or star anise (optional, for garnish)
Directions for the Drink

Warm the liquid:
Heat apple cider in a kettle or saucepan until steaming but not boiling. -
Assemble the mocktail:
Scoop 1-2 tablespoons of the batter into a mug. Slowly pour the hot liquid over the batter while stirring until fully dissolved and creamy.
*Note: how many tablespoons you use depends on how potent you want your drink to be. If you followed our cannabutter recipe and used a strain around 20% CBD, your batter should contain about 550mg of cannabinoids. In turn, each tablespoon will contain ~35mg of cannabinoids.

Garnish and enjoy:
Top with whipped cream and garnish with a cinnamon stick or star anise. Then sip, and relax!
