What is CBG flower?

CBG flower is exactly what it sounds like - cannabis buds that are high in CBG, aka cannabigerol. This section exists in order to differentiate CBG flower from what Tweedle Farms typically sells - CBD flower.

Is CBG flower the same as hemp?

Yes! Well, sort of... CBG flower is a type of hemp. Hemp, aka hemp flower, is a term that is typically used to describe cannabis that expresses high amounts of CBD, rather than THC. You'll often here the term "CBD flower" used interchangeably with hemp, and because those terms have become so synonymous, we thought it made sense to have a section specifically for CBG flower.

Why use CBG flower?

Cannabis enthusiasts have begun seeking out CBG flower for multiple reasons. First and foremost, to take advantage of the cannabinoids unique effects, but also because CBG flower is typically extremely low in THC; even more so than your average CBD flower!

What is hemp flower?

Hemp flower (AKA CBD flower, CBD hemp flower, or in this case, CBG flower) is a type of cannabis that expresses high concentrations of CBD or CBG, rather THC.

Genetically, hemp flower and marijuana (ie THC-rich cannabis) are almost indistinguishable. Contrary to popular belief, they're technically both cannabis, but they're genetically predisposed to express different cannabinoids.

How do I choose a good strain of CBG flower?

Shopping for CBG flower is a bit different than shopping for other kinds of cannabis.

Terpenes

Terpenes are aromatic compound that emit strong smells and flavors. Cannabis plants use them while growing to keep predators away and to attract pollinators.

Typically, when shopping for CBD flower, it's important to listen to your aromatic instincts. Experienced cannabis users will always say that "the nose knows." What that means is that your body will naturally gravitate towards the strains that are aromatically pleasing to you. In turn, you should listen to those signals and choose those strains, as your body may implicitly know that they will offer the greatest overall benefit.

This gets a little more difficult when it comes to CBG flower. That's because of the way that CBG flower develops.

So, cannabis normally produces CBD and THC, right? Well, it does this by first producing CBG. CBG then develops into CBD, and then in the latest stages of growth, THC. It is in these later stages of development that the majority of the most aromatic terpenes are developed.

Now, in order to make plants produce high levels of CBG, breeders had to essentially "interrupt" the plants' normal process of development. That way, the plants would produce CBG and instead of then converting it to other cannabinoids, they would continue to produce even more CBG. This is an amazing thing, but it has resulted in dramatically less terpenes, as that later stage of development never occurs.

That is not to say that CBG flower does not look and smell beautiful. It does! Just, in a different way.
